Disappointing Products #1

Every now and again, I come across a product that hasn't worked for me and was an overall disappointing experience to use it up. I haven't ever done one of these posts, so here's my first go at it. Here are five products that I have regretted purchasing for various reasons.
The first product I have is the Palmolive Naturals Liquid Hand Wash. I've used a lot of the Palmolive shower gels and I think they are freakin amazing. But this hand wash was such a let down. It completely dries out my hands even if I use the minimal amount. And my hands just feel weird, dry and stiff after using it, which is obviously not a good thing. My mum complained of the same issue so it wasn't just me. I'll probably try using this up (and getting myself a good hand cream to save my hands), but I definitely will not be repurchasing this one.

Next I have the Maybelline Eyeshadow Quad in Time For Wine. I'm a big Maybelline fan, I think they have some really amazing products but this one was a miss for me. It has four eyeshadows: one matte beige, one shimmery purple, a soft pink and a gold and purple duo-chrome. By the looks of it, this looks like it could create a really gorgeous purple smokey eye, but the quality of the product is a complete bummer. I mentioned this one in my May Favourites, I think, but I did mention that the only one that works for me is the matte beige. Everything else is just super chalky, not pigmented enough, has too much fall out and is just a fail for me. Especially the duo-chrome, which sucks because that looks the prettiest in the quad.

Next I have the Colorbar Instant Coverup Stick in Apricot Beige. Okay, so I will admit that I used to like this product, but honestly, thinking back, that was only because I hadn't ever tried anything better. Now that I have come to discover products like the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer, I realized that the Colorbar one can do so much better. It's super creamy and glides on easily, but I find it quite hard to blend and it does settle in lines and around the corner of your eyes in a good few hours. Also, the packaging is quite annoying. Now it's just lying in my collection, feeling unloved, but I honestly don't know what to do with it.
Fourth, is an Avon Dual Ended Lipstick+Lip Gloss in Brick Red and Peach Shine. Avon purchases can be quite unpredictable because you don't actually get to see what you're buying in person until you've already purchased it (which is why I refuse to shop for makeup online). The product didn't work for me at all. First, the lipstick shade does not suit me at all. It isn't very pigmented and the texture of it feels weird and waxy on my lips. The Peach Shine lip gloss, on the other hand, isn't so bad, but it looks so odd paired with the lipstick. And since I'm generally not a lip gloss person, I have no use for it.

Left to right: Avon Lipstick in Brick Red, Avon  Lipgloss in Peach Shine, Colorbar Lipgloss in Winter Plum
And lastly, we have one more product from Colorbar. This the Colorbar Star Gloss Lip Golss on 004 Winter Plum. The texture of this lip gloss is actually really good. It's really pigmented, non sticky and applies smoothly on the lips. My only issue with this is the scent. I CANNOT take it. Something about it makes me sick -it's almost like a sweet, plastic-y scent that drives me nuts. If you can, unlike me, bear the scent of this and are a fan of lip gloss, I think this is a great one to try out.

That will be all for this post. I hope this helped some of you. Have a great day!

  2. Err... this is going to be a long comment. I agree with your selection. I have the same duo from Avon and I still wonder why they call it 'Brick red' while it's brown. Still, the gloss does a good job on lipliners.
I had never been impressed with these quads from Maybelline. I know they are much raved about, but I always felt they are not pigmented enough except for the green quad.
Same reaction on those Colorbar lipglosses. :(

    1. Yeah, I use Maybelline's Chai Latte Quad for my brows. Other than the matte colours, I don't use the quad much.
