Dress For The Season: Fall '14 Outfit Ideas

Despite the fact that it's still hot out here in Mumbai, I can definitely feel the air getting dry and the evenings getting just that tad bit cooler. You know what that means? Winters are close. In anticipation of our upcoming winters, here's a bunch of outfit ideas.
Let's start with admitting that many of us live in places that don't actually have seasons. Mumbai, for instance. We don't have an autumn. We barely have a winter, although I like to believe we do (we do!). But for the sake of this post, let's call this season fall, all right? I believe in enjoying trends of every season, no matter what. Also, I don't believe you need giant coats and heavy knitwear to classify your outfit as fall/winter appropriate. The world is a flexible place. Let's tailor fall clothing to whatever temperature we are bestowed with, yeah?

OUTFIT ONE

Layering is the best part of fall/winter clothing. But since we can't really "bundle up", I think cardigans are the way to go. They look season appropriate without being too thick and heavy. Which is why most of the outfits here will feature cardigans of some sort.
The outfit above is basically what I would wear everyday if I could. Let's just say that I love grays, black leggings and converse. I'm not usually a fan of non-neutral converse, but that particular pair may just have changed my opinion. I think they're a perfect pop of colour without being too bright. Also, I'm definitely having a little burgundy obsession going on this year, for some reason. You will see.

OUTFIT TWO

For a nicer night time option, I thought it'd be really cute to keep everything else classy and very feminine and then throw on a giant comfy cardigan. See that burgundy theme again?

OUTFIT THREE

I think ripped boyfriend jeans are so cute right now. I mean, I always have and will always be a skinny jeans kind of girl, but something about the slouchiness of these make them look really cool in a very laid-back way.
Keeping with the comfy theme, I paired the jeans with a loose sweater, but then jazzed the outfit with a pretty statement necklace, some heels and a dark lip.

OUTFIT FOUR

If you're a shorts person, I don't think you must give them up. I really like the look of a nice pair of high-waisted shorts with a long cardigan.
Also, aren't those boots to die for
A year ago I would've laughed at that style of heel. Goes to show that tastes change and adapt. Isn't that weird?

OUTFIT FIVE

Now I'm a huge fan of plaid and tartan prints for the fall/winter time. I am also a fan of the schoolgirl-chic look. Which is where this outfit comes from.
Another tip? If you're looking for opaque tights like the ones above, check out Debenhams. They have some great deals on opaque tights.

OUTFIT SIX

Of course there had to be a plaid shirt in here. They're my fave. And even though I really wanted to pair the shirt with black skinnies and black converse or something, I thought I'd keep it a little more feminine with church's and those sunglasses. But the beanie and the dark lip add an edge to the look (I need MAC Diva in my life). Also, I cannot wait to crack out my beanie this year. Eep!

So that is all for this post. I hope you enjoyed reading it and looking at all the outfits. Now let's all make a little prayer to the Gods of Winter, k?

P.S. It was SUCH a hot day today. But the winters will come. I just know it.
