Makeup Cleanup: Products I Threw Out

I love cleaning up and organising. I really do. But there are some parts of my room I like to ignore. My makeup drawers, for example. There's just too much stuff that requires (immediate) attention and throwing out, that I like to ignore it altogether. But recently I decided to not think about it too much and just go for it. Clean that shiz up. So I pulled out all my makeup and had a good look at it. And here are some of the gross, expired, dried up or just plain unflattering gems I pulled out.

Kindly ignore the disgusting quality of this image. Before I realized how bad it was, I had already thrown the products out :(

I remember back when I decided I was into "makeup", I though the first thing I needed to buy was foundation. And obviously, being the ignorant sixteen year old that I was, I headed straight for the Lakme counter, and picked up the first foundation I spotted, aka, the Lakme Silk Naturelle Daily Foundation. I don't remember ever getting on with this one. It always made me look ghostly, even though the shade was too orange-y for me. And after a while, it split on my skin and came off in weird bits. It was all just very, very nauseating. I swore off foundations after this one and switched to BB creams. And yet, this little guy was still hanging out in my drawer. It needed to go.

Next is a Lakme eye pencil. I cannot for the life of me remember what this was called. And the writing was completely rubbed off. But what I did know was that it was too old, and there was too little left anyway, and hence, into the bin it went.

I have never been into Avon or Oriflame or the like, because I just don't dig products that I can't see, smell and swatch before I buy them. But there was this one time a few years ago, when I decided to be badass and order myself some Avon. It was this lipstick/lip gloss duo along with an eyeliner and nail polish, I believe. The other two were all right (actually, I don't remember), but this one was so not true to the colour on the catalog. The lipstick that was supposed to be a peach turned out to be a maroon. And the quality sucked as well. Out it goes.

More retro Lakme here. Remember when they sold these jumbo eye pencils? I believe they were called Kohl Sparkle something or the other. They were wayy past their expiry date, that's for sure. I had one in charcoal, and it was a glittery dark silver. I used to wear it all the time in the good old days of sparkly eyes and lip gloss. Eeks.

Speaking of lip gloss, my mum once got me the Colorbar Star Gloss in Winter Plum. Its actually a very pretty, very "fall appropriate" plum shade, which is why I really wanted to keep this one. But the truth is that I hate lip gloss on me, and that shade did not suit me. Not one bit. And most importantly, this product had a scent that I just Could. Not. Stand. So I had to toss it out.

And lastly, the most recent purchase, and actually a product I absolutely loved using, the Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner. But sadly, I don't think I'll repurchase this one, simply because it dried out on me too quickly. And I did the whole pop-it-in-the-microwave trick, but I had to do it every single time I wanted to use it. And in the end, it just wasn't worth the effort. (Although I do have friends who used this for a long, long time without it getting dried out. I don't know what I did wrong.)

That is all for this extremely long, hopefully not too boring post. I am sorry for going MIA for so so long. I've just been super busy with stuff. But I do have some nice posts coming up soon.

  1. It's so painful watching people throw away makeup I have no idea why haha. Still it's good to get rid of it because most products expire within a year or 2. I finally got rid of a load of lipsticks that were gross colours but i couldn't bear to throw away because of the packaging.
I didn't have an problems with the maybelline eyeliner at all, I think I've had it nearly 2 years now and it's still usable.
