Squeaky Clean Hair For Summer

It is scorching out here in Mumbai and you know what that means? That means it's time for extra effort on hair and skin care. I already did a post on my new skincare additions for the season, and here's what I added to my hair care routine!

My hair is extremely curly and curly hair tends to get super frizzy and dry, which means that most products I buy tend to have words like 'hydrating' or 'moisturizing' on the label. While all of that may keep my hair feeling moisturized and more manageable, since they're heavy, they tend to lead to a lot of product buildup in my hair and scalp.
Therefore, I decided to add a little extra something to my hair care routine to get rid of that buildup. I was on the hunt for a good clarifying shampoo, and the Herbal Essences Drama Clean Shampoo was the first one that caught my eye, so I went for it.
As it is, after all, a clarifying shampoo, it is super duper drying. You can actually feel how dry your hair has gotten as soon as you rinse this out. But I just follow up with a hair mask instead of regular conditioner, which perfectly fixes the dry hair. I use the L'oreal Professionnel Absolut Repair Cellular Masque that I mentioned in the haul that I posted earlier. And I only use this shampoo once every three hair washes.

Now I'm not sure what exactly I expected from a clarifying shampoo, probably to feel extremely squeaky clean after using it, which I do, but I may have found another benefit from using this shampoo. I've been experiencing a lot of hair fall since as long as I can remember. I never knew why and I almost wanted to seek medical help for it. But recently, my hair fall has massively reduced. I can't think of any big change I made other than maybe using this shampoo. I guess product buildup was causing a bigger problem for me than I thought it was!
A little tip though: while washing your hair with this, concentrate the shampoo only on your scalp and not on your actual hair to minimize the drying out caused by it. Your hair will get cleaned up as the shampoo runs through it with the water you use to wash it off.

This shampoo retails for 240 INR, in case you were interested.

Do you have a clarifying shampoo favourite?

  1. On a scale of 1-10 , how drying is this shampoo ? I get oily hair in the summer as well, but worry about the drying effect of this clarifying shampoo.

    1. I would say its a 7.5. Maybe even an 8. But like I said, if you follow it up with a mask/deep conditioner, the dryness can be fully taken care of. :)

  2. Yep, I agree with you. I concentrate on my scalp and use conditioner for the rest of my hair to prevent dryness. I have tried the herbal essences in orange, the volumizing one, and it worked well for me. The scent stayed for many hours even after a long day outdoors :)

    1. Yes, I've tried that one, too. But my favourite's got to be the Hello Hydration line. Love the scent and the way it makes my hair feel :)

    1. It could. But make sure to follow it up with a really rich conditioner or a hair mask.
